Here is how Halloween was started!!!

Time Halloween was started: over 3,000 years ago.

Different things Halloween was called: Samhain, Hakkiwe’en and Halloween

Reasons for starting: The Celts of Ireland believed that the last day of October marks the last day of summer and that November was the start of winter. So, they decided to celebrate the eve of November 1st as All Saints Day also known as Hakkiwe’en or Halloween. October 31st is also the day they would throw the Harvest Festival and they would wear costumes to scare of off evil things that would disrupt there harvest.

Why are the primary colors of Halloween Black and Orange? Because……..Orange is the color of fall leaves on the ground and Black is the color of darkness and death.

Why do we carve pumpkins? Because….. Carving pumpkins and lighting them goes back hundreds of years with the holiday. An Irish tale says that a man named Jack who tricks the devil to turn into a coin and keeps him from changing back by placing the coin next to a cross. A year later Jack died but he is not allowed to go to Heaven or Hell, so he must roam the earth. In the 1800’s the Irish immigrants brought Halloween to the United states.
